Ukraine is engaged in active peace negotiations
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, intensive diplomatic efforts are underway with partners to form a unified position aimed at achieving sustainable peace for Ukraine. The President highlighted the importance of a shared understanding of opportunities and threats by all parties, which, in his opinion, will allow for the attainment of genuine peace.
“We continue our active negotiation work with partners to establish a common position for the sake of reliable peace for Ukraine. Truly real peace. And if everyone equally perceives the opportunities and threats, then it will be possible to achieve sustainable peace. There is already a lot of support, and this support comes under new conditions, with the announced deadline for Russia to cease fire. We see that the Russians are ignoring this, at least for now,” he said in his video address.
The President also reminded that in recent days Ukraine has suffered massive attacks: over a hundred strike drones attacked at night, air bomb strikes were recorded throughout the day, and intense assaults continue on the front lines. In Kherson, a 13-year-old boy was injured as a result of an explosive device being dropped from a Russian drone.
International efforts to achieve a ceasefire
Volodymyr Zelensky reported on a series of phone conversations with leaders and heads of government from partner countries aimed at finding real steps to ensure peace. According to the President, more than a dozen such conversations have taken place.
According to Western sources, including Bloomberg, negotiations are ongoing in Washington and Moscow regarding a possible cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, which could result in the consolidation of Russian control over occupied territories. It is reported that American and Russian officials are working on an agreement regarding territorial demarcation for a future meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which could take place as early as next week.
Sources indicate that the U.S. is trying to secure the agreement of Ukraine and European allies to the proposed deal, which remains undefined at this time. Putin demands the transfer of all of eastern Donbas and Crimea, annexed in 2014, to Russia.
It is also reported that Russia is prepared to cease offensive actions in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions along the current front line as part of this agreement. However, the terms of the agreement may change, and the situation remains unstable.
No official comments have been received from Ukraine or Russia regarding these reports so far.
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt noted for NBC News that President Donald Trump advocates for ending the war through negotiations; however, given the delicacy of the diplomatic process with Russia, Ukraine, and European allies, the White House administration is not disclosing details published in the media.
