President’s Visit and Security Meeting
During his stay in the city, Zelensky held a meeting with representatives of the security forces responsible for the region’s safety. He emphasized the need to strengthen the protection of Kherson, as the city faces thousands of strikes from Russian drones and constant artillery shelling every month.
“Today in Kherson. It is already the third anniversary of the city’s liberation from the Russians – the occupiers fled from here, and we remember how the courage of our people made this happen, how the Ukrainian flags returned to the city – the city of Kherson. I thank every one of our warriors who fought for Kherson, everyone who is currently defending this beautiful city – the lives of our people,” he said in his video address.
Enhancing Defensive Capabilities
The President highlighted that to ensure reliable protection for Kherson, it is necessary to expand the capabilities of drone systems, including the “Birds of the Madjar” units and others. The authorities have identified priority areas for enhancing security to reduce risks for the local population and prevent new civilian casualties.
It is worth noting that on November 11, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kherson and the right-bank part of the region, which had been under Russian control since the first days of the full-scale invasion. This marked the final stage of the Kherson offensive operation. Today, the city remains under constant threat of attacks, causing continued suffering among the civilian population.
