The ambassadors of Germany and the United Kingdom condemned the nighttime massive airstrike by the Russian Federation on Kyiv that occurred on June 17. As a result of the missile strike, nine floors of a residential high-rise building in the capital were completely destroyed.

Diplomats’ reaction to the tragedy

The diplomats posted a photo of the destroyed building on the social media platform X, emphasizing the scale of the destruction and the suffering of civilians. According to British Ambassador Martin Harris, the attack serves as yet another horrific reminder of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and called for an immediate ceasefire from Russia.

“Russia’s indiscriminate attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities is a horrifying reminder that it continues its relentless war while Ukraine and its partners seek a just and lasting peace. My condolences to all who have lost loved ones. Russia must agree to a ceasefire immediately,” wrote British Ambassador Martin Harris.

Germany’s position on the aggressor’s objectives

In turn, German Ambassador Martin Jaeger emphasized that Russia is not interested in a truce or negotiations, but is attempting to force Ukraine into capitulation by military means. His statement highlighted that Russia’s actions aim to continue military pressure on the Ukrainian people.
