The Mini-Exhibition “Fields of Burials” is Opened at the National Museum of History of Ukraine

In Kyiv, the National Museum of History of Ukraine has launched a mini-exhibition titled “Fields of Burials” by Vikentiy Khvoyka. The event is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the beginning of excavations at one of the most significant burial sites near the village of Chernyakhiv, located in the Kyiv region.

Chernyakhiv Archaeological Culture: History and Significance

According to museum staff, the burial site near Chernyakhiv is considered an eponymous monument and a symbol of the rich, multi-ethnic Chernyakhiv archaeological culture of the 3rd to 4th centuries. Its foundation consisted of Germanic tribes. The territory of this culture extended across the steppe and forest-steppe regions of Ukraine, Moldova, parts of Romania, and stretched to the Danube in the southwest.

“It is worth noting that the discovery of the Chernyakhiv culture is inextricably linked to the name of the outstanding domestic archaeologist, museum worker, and talented artist Vikentiy Khvoyka.”

More than Three Thousand Archaeological Sites

Researchers emphasize that modern archaeologists have already studied over 3000 objects of this culture, including numerous settlements, burial sites, and three fortified settlements. The Chernyakhiv burial site remains one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the history of Ukraine.

The exhibition “Fields of Burials” is located in the lobby on the first floor of the museum and will be open to visitors until July 27.
