Alternative Routes for Odesa Residents
The restoration of transportation infrastructure and the organization of alternative routes have become a priority for the Ukrainian government. All relevant services are involved in addressing the aftermath, and government actions are coordinated with international partners. Among the key tasks is to ensure uninterrupted movement between parts of the Odesa region, despite the destruction of the main bridge.
“The government is urgently addressing the consequences of the cynical Russian shelling of the main bridge connecting Odesa and Izmail. First and foremost, we are ensuring the maximum possible alternative transportation links between parts of the Odesa region. All relevant services are engaged. We are coordinating our actions with international partners,” she stated.
Safety, Stability, and Business Support
The Prime Minister emphasized that the region is provided with the necessary resources to maintain humanitarian stability, and there is no expectation of price increases or fuel shortages due to the attack. The stable operation of banking and payment systems, the simplification of passenger transportation, particularly bus services, and the expansion of railway transport capabilities are under special control. Significant attention is being paid to the continuous operation of businesses in emergency conditions.
The coordination of actions to address the aftermath is the responsibility of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.
Earlier, the head of the Odesa Regional Administration, Oleg Kiper, reported on the continuation of work to eliminate the consequences of the strikes on the bridge near the settlement of Mayaki on the M15 highway (Odesa – Reni). Traffic on this highway is currently closed, and transport flows have been redirected through other border crossings, causing significant delays.
It is worth noting that on the evening of December 18, Russia launched a drone attack on the bridge over the Dniester near Mayaki, which is a key route between Odesa and Moldova. Border crossing points in the Palanka area are partially operational, and transport to Odesa has been redirected through other routes.
