A fire engulfed an ancient house in Kyiv
This is reported by Kyiv24
A large fire occurred in an evacuated historic building in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, constructed approximately between 1912 and 1914. The causes of the fire are currently unknown.
Architectural Value and History of the Building
The extraordinary event was reported by heritage protector Dmytro Perov. According to him, the two-story merchant house of Tymofii Kozlovskyi, located at 17 Haidamatska Street, combines elements of rationalist modernism and brick decor. The building served as an example of a Kyiv duplex — the owner lived on the first floor, while the second, more spacious floor was rented out either as a separate apartment or as individual rooms. The original metal balcony grilles on the second floor were particularly valuable, as they are now a rarity for the facades of the capital.
“At 17 Haidamatska Street, in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, the two-story merchant house of Tymofii Kozlovskyi was on fire… The Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration did not manage to include the building in the Register of Monuments of Kyiv,” wrote Dmytro Perov.
Condition of the Land Plot and Consequences of the Fire
As noted by the heritage protector, the land plot under the building has already been formed, its cadastral number is 8000000000:79:002:0011, and its intended purpose is for the construction and maintenance of a residential building. Recently, the owner of the plot has changed, but current information regarding the new owner is currently unavailable.
According to the fire and rescue service, approximately 200 square meters of the building’s area were engulfed in flames. Rescuers quickly extinguished the fire, but the ancient structure suffered significant damage.
