Concerns About Preserving Historical Heritage in Lukyanivka Are Growing
This is reported by Kyiv24
In Kyiv, the historical building of the tram and trolleybus management, constructed in 1910, has recently been surrounded by construction scaffolding. This has raised alarm among public activists and heritage protectors, who fear the potential destruction of this important architectural landmark.
Threat to the Landmark and Public Reaction
Heritage protector Dmytro Perov reported on social media that the building has begun to be covered with construction fabric. There are concerns that a new shopping and entertainment center may be built on the site of this historical structure, planned by the Estonian company Arricano. According to preliminary information, the future complex Lukianivka Mall could become the largest in the capital.
“The building of the tram and trolleybus management from 1910 has started to be covered with construction fabric… It is likely that the Estonian company Arricano plans to construct the largest shopping and entertainment complex Lukianivka Mall on the site of the historical building,” wrote Perov.
Previous Demolition Attempts and the Role of Activists
It is worth recalling that at the end of spring 2025, the developer had already attempted to dismantle the roof of this landmark, as well as began to tear down internal walls and inter-floor ceilings. At that time, thanks to the active stance of the public and the intervention of the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration, further work was managed to be halted.
The issue of preserving architectural heritage in Lukyanivka remains relevant and sparks lively discussions among Kyiv residents, who are calling for the protection of unique historical objects from destruction.
