Details of the Equipment Transfer
The new modern lighting control panel was ceremoniously presented and handed over by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome. This initiative marks another step by Japan in support of Ukrainian culture amid the war, as Russia attempts to destroy Ukraine’s identity and heritage.
“Hundreds of cultural and religious sites across Ukraine have been destroyed or damaged by Russia in an effort to erase the identity, history, and heritage of the country. In response, Japan, in partnership with UNESCO, is helping Ukraine preserve its cultural heritage,” emphasized the Japanese Ambassador.
The Significance of Assistance and Cultural Partnership
Ambassador Masashi Nakagome highlighted that the National Opera is a symbol of the long-standing friendship between Ukraine and Japan. Ukrainian opera and ballet artists regularly perform on Japanese stages, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between the two countries. The Japanese audience always eagerly anticipates performances by Ukrainian artists.
Following the equipment handover, the premiere of the ballet “The Wayward Daughter” took place at the theater, during which the new stage lighting control panel was used for the first time.
The modernization of lighting equipment is the fourth project implemented by the government of Japan under the “Kusanone” Cultural Projects Support Program. The program provides grants to non-profit organizations to support the preservation of cultural heritage, the development of culture, higher education, and sports. The new equipment has become part of the official aid from the Japanese government, contributing to the further development of Ukrainian culture.
