Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized that Ukraine is making every effort to ensure that the United States remains an active participant in the peaceful resolution of the war with the Russian Federation. In an interview, he stressed that intensive diplomatic work is currently underway at various levels, and constant contacts are being maintained with American politicians.

Ukraine’s Diplomatic Steps and the Role of the U.S.
Korniienko noted that he cannot predict whether U.S. President Donald Trump might decide to withdraw Washington from the negotiation process regarding the end of the war with the Russian Federation in Ukraine. He highlighted that a parliamentary delegation from Ukraine recently participated in a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Dayton, where numerous meetings took place with American senators and congressmen. The Ukrainian side plans to continue these contacts, inform partners, and explore possible avenues for legislative cooperation.
“I think we need to return from the world of some bad predictions to the real world. In the real world, diplomatic work is ongoing at all levels. Recently, there was a delegation from the parliament in the United States. The NATO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Dayton, commemorating the Dayton Agreements… And they had many meetings with senators and congressmen. Well, we will continue to do our work, maintain these contacts, inform our colleagues, and work with them on various possible legislative solutions,” said the legislator.
Plans for Further Interaction and Military Assistance
The issue of support for Ukraine from the U.S. is becoming particularly relevant in light of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s statement regarding plans to reduce the budget for arms procurement for Ukraine in 2026. Korniienko reported that Kyiv aims to prevent a reduction in the volume of military assistance from the new American administration. A meeting at the presidential level is being prepared for this purpose.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the American channel Newsmax that he plans to discuss these issues with Donald Trump during the G7 summit, which will take place on June 17 in Canada. At the same time, Zelensky’s advisor Oleksandr Kamyshin previously reported that Ukraine is already developing alternative solutions in case the U.S. halts the supply of air defense systems.
