Kyiv Man Attempted to Burn Ex-Wife Out of Jealousy

In the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 45-year-old man who attempted to set fire to his neighbors’ door during a quarrel over jealousy. The incident occurred in one of the apartment buildings, where residents noticed a fire in the common corridor and immediately called the firefighters and police.

Details of the Incident

According to information from the capital’s police communication department, it was determined during the investigation that the arson was committed by a 45-year-old resident of the building. The day before, the man and his ex-wife had visited a neighbor, but the woman left earlier, and the door was not opened for him. Offended by jealousy, the man decided to commit arson using a lighter.

Investigative Actions and Consequences

Local residents smelled smoke and called the firefighters, who quickly extinguished the fire. In connection with this incident, law enforcement officials informed the detained man of suspicion under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional destruction of someone else’s property causing significant damage, committed by arson. Under this article, the man could face up to ten years in prison. The court has placed him under house arrest as a preventive measure.

“During the investigative actions, it was established that a 45-year-old resident of the building was involved in the crime,” the police emphasized.
