Capital residents advocate for a ban on the use of wild animals in the National Circus of Ukraine
This is reported by Kyiv24
Citizens of Kyiv have appealed to the city authorities, urging them to initiate a ban on the involvement of wild animals in circus performances at the National Circus of Ukraine before the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
The Petition Gains Momentum Among Kyiv Residents
The relevant electronic petition has already been published on the Kyiv City Council’s website. Its authors state that such practices are morally outdated and do not align with modern views on humane treatment of animals.
“The use of wild animals in circus performances is a morally outdated practice that contradicts contemporary notions of humane treatment of living beings. Furthermore, the signatories of the document believe that such performances distort children’s understanding of nature and normalize violence against animals.”
European Experience as an Example
The petition initiators emphasize that most European Union countries have already completely abandoned or restricted the use of wild animals in circuses. They are convinced that Kyiv, as a European capital, should set an example of progressive approaches to ethics, environmental responsibility, and humane treatment of animals.
