Petition for the Official’s Dismissal Gains Momentum

Citizens of Kyiv have addressed Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the members of the Kyiv City Council with a demand to revoke Myroslava Smirnova’s mandate as a council member and to dismiss her from her position as the director of the Department of Public Communications of the Kyiv City State Administration. The corresponding electronic petition has already been published on the official Kyiv City Council website.

Outrage Over Ethical Violations on Day of Mourning

The authors of the initiative remind that on August 1 of this year, a Day of Mourning was declared in Kyiv in honor of those who died during the massive attack by the Russian Federation on the capital on the night of July 31, when 32 people were killed and another 158 were injured. However, on August 2, a video surfaced online showing Myroslava Smirnova, a Kyiv City Council member from the Obolon district and head of the Department of Public Communications of the Kyiv City State Administration, enjoying herself at a restaurant — dressed festively, with alcohol and smoking an IQOS device indoors, which sparked outrage among Kyiv residents.

The signatories of the document emphasized that her brazen behavior demonstrated a lack of respect for all Kyiv residents, especially for the relatives and loved ones of those who suffered during the massive shelling on July 31.
