The process of de-Russification and rethinking historical street names continues in Kyiv. Residents of the capital have approached the city authorities with an initiative to change the name of the street currently named after the Russian poet Vasily Zhukovsky, due to his ties to the Russian Empire and lack of connections to Kyiv. They propose to name this street after the prominent Ukrainian philosopher and founder of Ukrainian nationalism, Dmytro Dontsov.

A corresponding petition has already been registered on the Kyiv City Council’s website. The authors of the initiative emphasize that
“Zhukovsky was a Russian poet, the author of the anthem of the Russian Empire, and he had only a transient status in Kyiv with no direct connection to the city”
. In their opinion, Dmytro Dontsov made a significant contribution to the formation of Ukrainian political thought. His path crossed Kyiv twice, and his work and philosophy laid the foundation for the modern Ukrainian national movement.
The signatories of the petition are confident that the name of Dontsov deserves recognition in the form of a street name in the capital of Ukraine, as he became a key figure in Ukrainian ideology and political development.
