Police Arrest Suspect in Arson

Law enforcement officers in the capital quickly apprehended a 49-year-old resident of the Holosiivskyi district, who set fire to a car in the yard of a high-rise building on Radunska Street. According to the investigation, the man arrived at the crime scene with a pre-prepared canister of gasoline, broke the car’s window, doused the interior with a flammable substance, and ignited the vehicle. He suffered burns to his hand during the act of arson.

“Operational staff from the police chief’s office and the district department, along with criminal analysis analysts, determined that the arson of the vehicle was committed by a 49-year-old resident of the Holosiivskyi district, who arrived at the crime scene with a pre-prepared canister of gasoline. While near the vehicle, owned by a Kyiv resident, the man broke the car’s window, doused the interior with a flammable liquid, and set it on fire, sustaining burns to his hand in the process,” police reported.

Motives and Accountability

It turned out that the suspect committed the crime due to personal motives — he sought revenge on the new partner of his former cohabitant. After the breakup, the 47-year-old Kyiv resident attempted to rekindle his relationship with the woman for several months but received a categorical refusal. This pushed him towards radical actions against the woman’s new partner, who turned out to be the head of a department at one of the capital’s universities.

At this time, the suspect has been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intentional damage to someone else’s property by arson. He faces up to ten years of imprisonment for his actions.
