The police continue to search for other individuals involved in the incident

In the capital, law enforcement officers detained a 28-year-old resident of Kyiv who was involved in a shooting that occurred over the weekend near Bessarabskaya Square. The incident took place on the night of December 21 and attracted significant public attention.
Circumstances of the Conflict and the Detention of the Suspect
According to the results of the investigative actions, it was established that a conflict arose between two groups on the street, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, one of the participants drew a firearm and fired a shot into the air. After that, all individuals involved left the scene.
“The investigation found that a dispute arose on the street between two groups, which escalated into a scuffle. During the confrontation, one of the participants fired a shot upwards, after which the offenders left the scene. At that time, the police identified two individuals involved in the incident. Currently, as a result of the search operations, law enforcement has identified the shooter and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine — he turned out to be a 28-year-old local resident,” the statement reads.
Progress of the Investigation and Possible Punishment
Police officers are currently continuing to identify the other participants in the fight. A pre-trial investigation has been opened regarding this incident under part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism with the use of firearms. According to the legislation, the sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to seven years.
