Statistics for Ukraine and the Operation of Educational Institutions During Wartime

Overall, in Ukraine, according to official data, 3.5 million schoolchildren have started their studies in 2025. Most of them are learning in a regular, offline format. Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi emphasized that the educational process continues even in regions where Russia has attempted to destroy Ukrainian education. In several cities, four relocated schools from Donetsk have resumed operations.

At the same time, over 338,000 children continue their studies remotely in domestic schools. More than 178,000 individuals have been enrolled in higher education institutions, excluding those entering military and other specialized educational establishments. Additionally, over 66,000 applications have been submitted for admission to vocational schools, and more than 248,000 applications have been submitted to institutions of higher vocational education.

Support for Children and Learning Conditions

On this day, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with students and teachers at one of the schools in Kyiv region. Special attention was given to issues of safety, comfort, and inclusivity in the educational process.

“The school has everything for safe, comfortable, and engaging learning. They have also taken care of accessibility. This is very important. This is how we should support our children, help them, and create conditions in which children want to learn, develop, and dream big.”

It is also noted that this year there is a support program for families to prepare children for school. Assistance can be applied for online through the “Diia” app or by contacting the service centers of the Pension Fund. Funds are credited to the Diia Card or the bank card of the Pension Fund of Ukraine and can only be used cashless—for purchasing school supplies, clothing, and footwear for children. The program covers the entire territory of Ukraine and is available to all families regardless of their financial situation.
