“Poland has every right to defend itself. We are still analyzing what happened – we have seen statements from the Polish government and its leader. But do not doubt – Poland has the full right to defend itself from any attack,” she said.

Drone Incident: Reaction from Polish Authorities

According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, on the night of September 10, Polish airspace was violated by a “huge number” of drones launched from the territory of the Russian Federation. Those that posed an immediate threat were shot down by Polish army units.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that at least eight drones launched by Russian military crossed the border towards Poland. On the morning of the same day, the Operational Command of Poland announced an “unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drones.” The military reported that some of the devices were destroyed, but their exact origin is currently undisclosed.

EU and NATO Security Under Threat

Roberta Metsola emphasized that this incident is a serious test for the collective security system of the European Union and NATO. She stressed that the incident calls into question not only the joint defense capabilities but also the readiness of the united forces to respond to such incidents.

Following the attack, Polish police reported finding a damaged drone in the Lublin Voivodeship. These events raised concerns about security in the region and the need to strengthen the protection of Europe’s eastern borders.
