Significant financial contributions from partners

Within the framework of the program, over $2 billion has already been accumulated. These funds are intended for the purchase of necessary weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, including missiles for the Patriot and HIMARS systems, as well as other modern weapon systems needed to protect Ukrainian cities.

“I want to thank the partners who have joined the PURL program this month. Our special program allows us to purchase the necessary weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces – to buy in America. In August, we added the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, and Latvia to the program. There are already more than two billion dollars in the program. Coordination is provided by NATO,” said Zelensky.

The president also expressed hope that the program would provide at least one billion dollars each month for the procurement of weapons for Ukraine.

Mechanism and next steps of the PURL program

It is known that the Netherlands has already contributed $500 million to the program. The combined contribution from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden also amounts to $500 million, while Germany has added another $500 million.

The PURL program was initiated following U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement about the intention to transfer billions of dollars’ worth of weapons to Ukraine, which would be procured through NATO. It was after this statement that the North Atlantic Alliance and the U.S. launched the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative, which allows for the rapid provision of modern systems and weapons available from the United States to Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, thanks to the new mechanism, partners have the opportunity to finance the supply of American weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions. New aid packages will be announced regularly, and their coordination will be managed by NATO.
