Court Hearings and Reasons for Delays

Since June 2024, the Brovary City District Court has not yet begun to consider this case substantively. Over the course of a year, 27 hearings have been held, which proved insufficient to complete the preparatory proceedings. Hearings were often postponed or adjourned—both due to changes in the composition of the judicial panel and requests from the defense for rescheduling. Some hearings were dedicated solely to resolving technical and procedural issues.

Defendants in the Maidan Case

In this high-profile case regarding the organization of violent crimes during the events of February 18-20, 2014, the defendants include former President Viktor Yanukovych, as well as former leaders of the security forces: Vitaliy Zakharchenko, Viktor Ratushnyak, Oleksandr Yakymenko, Serhiy Totskyi, Pavlo Lebedev, Yuriy Shulyak, Andriy Mazan, Serhiy Fedchuk, and Dmytro Kusyuk.

“27 scheduled hearings were not enough to complete the preparatory proceedings in this case regarding the Maidan events of February 18-20, 2014, within a year. Reasons have been cited: the composition of the judges changed, some scheduled hearings were postponed, and the defense requested rescheduling. Sometimes, technical (procedural) issues were addressed.”
