Reasons for the Initiative to Change the Inscription
During the committee meeting, the issue was raised that the current inscription on the pedestal contains Soviet propaganda. In particular, the monument features a fragment of an obituary printed in Russian: “Standing close to the liberation movement in general and the proletarian one in particular, she gave it all her strength, sowed the reasonable, the good, the eternal. ‘Pravda,’ 1913.”
“The meeting raised the issue of the need to change the inscription on the Lesya Ukrainka monument, as it contains elements of Soviet propaganda,” the committee’s statement said.
Next Steps and Discussion
To develop clear decisions regarding the change of the inscription, the committee plans to conduct a detailed review of this topic at the next meeting with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, as well as the Kyiv City State Administration. The discussion aims to help determine specific actions to address the issue.
The topic of the inscription on the Lesya Ukrainka monument has repeatedly become a subject of discussion in society. Two years ago, unknown individuals covered it with a plaque, but the question of the appropriateness and content of the inscription remains relevant.
