The Council of Europe to Consider the Creation of a Tribunal for Russia

During the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), a vote is planned on a resolution concerning the accountability of Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. This important step will take place on April 9, as reported by member of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to PACE, Yevheniya Kravchuk, on her Facebook page.

Importance of the Resolution and Its Content

Yevheniya Kravchuk noted:

“The spring session of PACE has officially begun. The agenda for the week has been approved. An important resolution will be adopted on Wednesday – following the debates under the urgent procedure ‘Russia’s Aggression against Ukraine: The Need for Accountability and the Prevention of Impunity’

. The resolution will include issues related to the establishment of a Special Tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression, as well as an international mechanism for compensation and accountability for war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.

Preparation for the Creation of the Tribunal

It was previously reported that a group of states working on the establishment of a special tribunal regarding the crime of aggression against Ukraine has completed the preparation of the necessary technical and legal documents for its launch based on the Council of Europe.
