The significance of these documents for preventing new acts of aggression at the global level is being discussed.

History and Significance of the Crimean Platform

The Crimean Platform is an international initiative launched by Ukraine to unite efforts for the deoccupation of Crimea and the protection of its residents’ rights. At the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2020, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on countries around the world to join this format. The first summit of the platform took place in Kyiv in August 2021, symbolically timed to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, and marked the beginning of international cooperation for the deoccupation of the peninsula.

During the first summit, 43 countries signed a joint Declaration calling for the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and emphasized:

“Russia will not succeed in legitimizing the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.”

The Fifth Summit of the Crimean Platform continues to consolidate international support and develop joint actions for the deoccupation of Crimea and the protection of human rights in the occupied territories.
