In the historic Moschinsky house on Andriyivskyy Descent in Kyiv, unique authentic interiors, including tiled stoves and plasterwork, were destroyed under the guise of restoration.
This is reported by Kyiv24
The building, located at Andriyivskyy Descent, 18, was constructed in the late 19th century on the order of collegiate secretary Yakov Moschinsky. The project was created by the renowned Kyiv architect Pavlo Sparro. In 2007, this historical site was leased to the company “Aviantbud,” but due to the negligent attitude of the owners, the house fell into a state of disrepair.

Destruction of Interiors Under the Guise of Restoration
In the summer of 2025, the wooden veranda was dismantled, and the interior was completely destroyed. All original elements disappeared from the building: tiled stoves, plaster rosettes, mosaics, and window fittings. Before the work began, the authentic design of the rooms was documented, but now these unique interiors are irretrievably lost.
“All original interiors, internal ceilings, and walls have been destroyed. In particular, tiled stoves, plaster rosettes, mosaics, and window fittings. The building was filled with exquisite plaster interiors, which were photographed before the work commenced. Now – they are lost forever,” reported Kyiv heritage protector Dmytro Perov.

Position of the Kyiv City Administration and Further Actions
In September, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of the Kyiv City Administration issued an order to immediately halt all work in the Moschinsky house. At the same time, the agency officially acknowledged that it was the department that granted permission for the work to be carried out in this historical building.

The relevant body of the Kyiv City Administration allowed the replacement of original brick and wooden walls with drywall and a metal frame, while the restoration of plaster decor was to be carried out on the new partitions. This effectively led to a complete loss of the authenticity of the cultural heritage site.
