Vance: Trump’s Statement on Ukraine is an Acknowledgment of Reality, Not a Change of Position

«Це не зміна позиції, це визнання реальності» – Венс про заяву Трампа щодо України

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that President Donald Trump’s recent stance on the war in Ukraine is not a change in course, but rather reflects an acknowledgment of the real situation on the front lines. According to Vance, Trump is becoming increasingly impatient with Russia, as he believes it is not making sufficient efforts to end the hostilities.

Trump Calls for an End to the War

Vance emphasized that the U.S. president is eager for a swift conclusion to the war. He noted that Trump is closely monitoring economic data from Eastern Europe and the number of casualties on both sides. The Vice President also reported that Trump has clearly communicated his position to Vladimir Putin, stressing the need to stop the bloodshed.

“The president is also looking at the situation on the ground. He sees the economic indicators coming from Eastern Europe. He sees the number of casualties, both Russian and Ukrainian, in this war. And the president tells Vladimir Putin: ‘It’s time to stop the killings’… but if the Russians refuse to negotiate in good faith, I think that will be very, very bad for their country. The president has made that very clear. This is not a change of position. This is an acknowledgment of reality on the ground,” Vance added in response to a question about why Trump’s stance on the war in Ukraine has changed.

Prospects for the Restoration of Ukraine’s Territories

Previously, Donald Trump expressed the opinion that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union and NATO, could restore its borders to those that existed before the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. Trump emphasized that, over time, with patience and financial assistance from European partners, the return of occupied territories is a completely realistic scenario.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to quickly end the war between Russia and Ukraine. However, he has recently acknowledged that his hopes for achieving peace through good relations with Putin have not materialized.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a comment to American media, noted that he was “a bit surprised” by Trump’s statements about the possibility of returning all temporarily occupied territories, but called it a positive signal for Ukraine.

At the same time, the Kremlin criticized Trump’s position, stating that his claims about the possibility of liberating Ukrainian lands are false.

In recent days, Donald Trump has been actively consulting with key representatives of his administration who advocate for a tougher stance against Russia. Among them are U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg and the new U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz. They informed Trump that Russia has not achieved significant success on the front in recent years.
