The installation of the country’s main New Year tree has begun in the center of Kyiv, traditionally set up in Sofiyska Square.

Decor in Pastel Shades and Unique Ornaments
This year, the Christmas tree will stand 16 meters tall and will be decorated in pastel shades reminiscent of the colors of the frescoes in St. Sophia Cathedral. The decoration of the tree includes about 4,500 ornaments, which have already started to be delivered to the square. According to the project’s creator, Nadiya Tutenko, a soft warm garland will be used for the decoration, creating a cozy atmosphere.
“This year we chose a theme that matches the colors of the frescoes in St. Sophia Cathedral, which are pastel colors. The tree will be adorned with a warm garland,” Tutenko noted.
Festive Location and Additional Activities
The top of the tree will be adorned with a large star, also in pastel shades. A generator will be installed near the tree to power the illumination. The organizers plan for the overall appearance of the tree to harmonize with the bell tower and the golden domes of St. Sophia Cathedral. Igor Dobrytsky, president of Folk Ukraine, announced that the festive tree will be decorated with balls in pastel, green, blue, and gold colors.
Next to the tree, an ice rink will be set up for visitors of all ages. During the “Winter Herbata” festival, guests will be offered to taste herbal teas made from cherry, apple, and other tree branches.
The installation of the tree, as in previous years, is funded by the organizers and sponsors. The official opening of the festive location is scheduled for December 6 – St. Nicholas Day.
