Three employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine have been suspected of committing traffic accidents with victims. This was reported based on materials from the State Bureau of Investigations.
Incident Circumstances
According to the investigation, one of the law enforcement officers, while exiting a secondary road in Kyiv, caused a collision with a vehicle traveling on the main road. After this, his car hit a pedestrian, resulting in severe bodily injuries, including the amputation of the victim’s left lower limb.
In another case, a NABU employee, at the 61 km mark of the Kyiv-Odesa highway, failed to maintain a safe speed while overtaking and drove off the roadway. As a result, the vehicle overturned and collided with a gas station building. A passenger in the car sustained serious injuries — multiple fractures, a ruptured spleen, and a traumatic brain injury.
Legal Consequences and Positions of the Parties
The third bureau employee, while driving a service vehicle, allegedly ran over a woman at a pedestrian crossing, causing her moderate bodily injuries.
“In another incident, the law enforcement officer, while traveling at the 61 km mark of the Kyiv-Odesa highway, did not choose a safe speed while overtaking a vehicle and drove off the roadway, resulting in the vehicle overturning and subsequently colliding with the gas station building. As a result of the collision, a passenger in his car sustained severe bodily injuries — multiple fractures, a ruptured spleen, and a traumatic brain injury,” stated the SBI.
According to the SBI, the Deputy Attorney General informed all three employees of the suspicion of violating traffic safety rules while operating vehicles, which led to moderate and severe bodily injuries to the victims. The issue of preventive measures is currently being resolved.
If proven guilty, the suspects face up to eight years of imprisonment. The names of the employees are not disclosed, and their position regarding the suspicions is unknown.
At the same time, NABU previously commented on searches conducted regarding at least 15 bureau employees. According to NABU, the main reason for these procedural actions is their involvement in traffic accidents, although some employees are accused of possible connections with the aggressor country. NABU emphasizes that these facts are not related to each other.
