Ukrzaliznytsia Introduces New Ticket Purchase Rules to Combat Speculation
This is reported by Kyiv24
Starting from August 1, passengers will be able to purchase tickets for a number of the most in-demand train routes only after confirming their identity through the ‘Diia.Signature’ service. This restriction also applies to ticket refunds for these routes. Thus, the company aims to reduce the number of abuses and unfair resales.
Which Trains Are Affected by the New Rules
In the first phase, the changes will cover the following routes:
- №105/106 Odesa — Kyiv
- №91/92 Lviv — Kyiv
- №29/30 Kyiv — Uzhhorod
- №12 Lviv — Odesa
- №27/28 Kyiv — Chop
The specified tickets will no longer be sold at railway ticket offices — they will only be available for purchase online after verification through ‘Diia.Signature’.
“We continue to use all means to reduce the number of possible abuses during the purchase of train tickets. Thus, starting from August 1, to buy or return tickets for certain domestic trains, passengers must verify their identity through ‘Diia.Signature’,” the statement reads.
Exemptions for Military Personnel and Public Reaction
The restrictions do not apply to routes that have a special reserve of tickets for military personnel. Defenders will still be able to book and purchase their tickets through separate services of ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ or through the Army+ program.
The company notes that they are also working on implementing the possibility of authorization through BankID in the future.
The introduction of new rules has sparked active discussion on social media. Some users expressed concerns that such innovations could limit passengers’ rights, as the use of the ‘Diia’ application is not mandatory by law. The issue of elderly people, who often do not have smartphones and will be unable to use the new ticket purchasing process, requires special attention.
