Public Transport and Pedestrian Infrastructure Need Changes

During a conversation in the studio of the YouTube project “Kashtan. Interview”, Ivanna Maliy noted that among the most pressing problems in Kyiv are the poor infrastructure of public transport and the lack of comfortable stops. She emphasized that the stop complexes are small, primitive, designed in various styles, and the glass roofs of many of them do not protect passengers from the sun. According to her, the city authorities do not offer effective solutions to ensure the convenience of the capital’s residents, particularly paying insufficient attention to the creation of wide pedestrian zones.

“The municipality does not provide effective solutions in terms of convenience for Kyiv residents, including poorly addressing the creation of pedestrian zones in the capital. Although most urban solutions, such as pedestrian-centric ones, in Ivanna Maliy’s opinion, are not financially burdensome for the city budget. It’s not like constructing road overpasses or transport interchanges costing billions of hryvnias.”

Issues with Designated Transport Lanes and Parking

Ivanna Maliy also emphasized that Kyiv could have long ago resolved the issue of designating separate lanes for public transport and organized the pricing policy for parking in the city center. However, as the expert notes, these issues still remain overlooked by the city authorities.
