On the night of July 12, Russia launched a massive missile and drone strike on the territory of Ukraine, affecting regions from Kharkiv and Sumy to Lviv and Bukovina. President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to this latest attack, drawing attention to its scale and consequences for the civilian population.

Consequences of the Night Attack: Casualties and Injuries

According to the head of state, the shelling resulted in hits on civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings. In Chernivtsi, two people were killed, and about twenty others were injured and are currently receiving necessary medical assistance.

“Unfortunately, there were hits on civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings. As of now, two people are known to have died in Chernivtsi. My condolences to their relatives and loved ones. About 20 injured people as a result of the shelling are receiving all necessary assistance,” the Ukrainian leader reported.

Call for Strengthening Sanctions and Enhancing Air Defense

Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russia continues to escalate the pace of air attacks, which requires immediate decisions at the international level. The President highlighted the importance of imposing strict secondary sanctions on all those who contribute to the production of Russian drones and profit from oil exports. He also called for increased supplies of air defense systems and investments in interceptor drones, which have already demonstrated effectiveness on the battlefield.

Furthermore, Zelensky appealed to international partners to move from statements to real actions that will help protect the lives of Ukrainians and contribute to the swift cessation of the war.

During the night attack, the main targets of the Russian forces were Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Lutsk. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to destroy 319 Shahed kamikaze drones and 25 X-101 cruise missiles, which helped reduce the destructive impact of the strike. However, the threat remains relevant, and Ukraine continues to demand specific steps from its partners to strengthen air defense.
