Zelensky Emphasizes the Importance of Supporting Ukraine After Massive Russian Attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to yet another massive missile and drone strike by Russia that occurred on the night of January 13. He emphasized that the primary targets of the Russian Federation’s attacks traditionally remain energy infrastructure facilities, such as power plants and substations, as well as residential buildings and civilian structures.

Consequences of the Strike and Emergency Services’ Response

During the nighttime attack, the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk came under fire. A missile strike targeted a postal terminal in the village of Korotych in the Kharkiv region, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk were hit. Without any military sense, missiles were fired at a postal terminal in Korotych in Kharkiv, killing four people. My condolences to the families and loved ones,” he stated.

The situation in Kyiv region remains challenging – several hundred thousand households are without electricity. Emergency services are working on-site, and resilience points have been set up to support the population.

Air Defense and International Assistance

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the night of January 13, Russia launched 25 missiles and 293 strike drones. Air defense forces managed to destroy 7 missiles and 240 kamikaze drones. A thermal power plant owned by DTEK was damaged as a result of the attack.

Zelensky highlighted the necessity of daily supplies of missiles for air defense systems, especially during the winter period. He expressed confidence that the international community can respond to Russian terror with new aid packages for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of accelerating the provision of already agreed support from the United States and European countries.

The President underscored that Russia will not be able to win the war by using cold as a weapon and thanked everyone who helps Ukraine resist aggression.

Russian troops continue regular attacks on Ukrainian regions using various types of weapons, including strike drones, missiles, aerial bombs, and multiple launch rocket systems. Meanwhile, the Russian leadership denies the fact of targeted strikes on civilian infrastructure, although Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify such actions as war crimes with deliberate intent.
