The agreements were signed in Brussels during a meeting with EIB President Nadia Calviño. Shmyhal emphasized that the first 100 million euros will be directed towards investments in centralized heating, improving energy efficiency, and acquiring equipment, including installations for electricity and heat production.

Funding for Water Supply and Social Services

An additional 100 million euros is designated for projects that will enhance water supply and wastewater management. The final portion of funding, also amounting to 100 million euros, will be used for the restoration of water and heat supply facilities and the modernization of social services in the fields of education, healthcare, and housing.

“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, the EIB has mobilized over two billion euros in emergency funding for Ukraine,” noted Shmyhal.

Damage from Military Aggression

According to the Ministry of Energy, Russia has carried out over 30 comprehensive strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure over the three years of the full-scale invasion, causing damages amounting to billions of dollars. In April of last year, Ukraine and the EIB signed a memorandum of cooperation for a duration of 10 years.
