Kyiv Residents Call for Implementation of Free Transfers in Public Transport

Кияни пропонують нову форму оплати проїзду в міському транспорті

Residents of Kyiv’s sleeping districts are urging the city authorities to implement a new fare payment system that would allow free transfers between different types of public transport within 1.5-2 hours after the first ticket validation.

Proposal for Changes in the Transport System

Kyiv residents have proposed the introduction of a unified fare payment system that would enable free transfers within one and a half to two hours from the moment of the first payment using a card or QR code. A corresponding electronic petition has already appeared on the official portal of the Kyiv City Council.

According to the authors of this initiative, the proposed model should cover all types of urban transport where validators for payment are installed. They believe this will help avoid situations where residents of remote areas are forced to pay for multiple transfers without receiving quality and fast transport services.

Pilot Launch in Remote Areas

The petition signatories suggest starting the implementation of the new system with routes serving residential areas without rapid transit connections, particularly in Vygurivshchyna-Troieshchyna. After conducting the experiment, it is planned to expand this model to the entire city of Kyiv.

“Residents of Troieshchyna are overpaying for transport daily due to transfers, receiving neither quality services nor any compensation for the city authorities’ inability to provide convenient and fast connections between the residential area and other parts of the city.”

Kyiv residents note that a similar system is already in place in many European countries, as well as in some cities in Ukraine, and could be a real step towards improving the accessibility of public transport for all residents of the capital.
