The City is Drowning in Trash

This is reported by Kyiv24

Residents of Kyiv are increasingly facing the problem of overflowing trash bins in courtyards and residential areas. This has led to large piles of waste forming around the bins, resulting in a deterioration of the city’s sanitary conditions. Capital residents are urging the leadership of the Kyiv City State Administration to urgently review the existing household waste collection schedules and enhance control over the cleaning of surrounding areas.

Petition Supporting Changes in Waste Collection

An electronic petition has been published on the official Kyiv City Council website, in which residents demand a solution to the problem of overflowing bins. The authors of the initiative emphasize that one of the key reasons for the situation is the insufficient number of bins for waste, especially for recycling, as well as irregular waste collection and untimely cleaning of the areas around the bins.

“The problem is likely related to the insufficient number of bins, particularly for recycling, as well as the inadequate frequency of waste collection and cleaning of the area around the bins. As a result, people are forced to leave trash next to the bins. This creates unsanitary conditions, unpleasant odors, attracts animals and birds, and spoils the appearance of the city.”

Kyiv Residents’ Proposals to Solve the Problem

In their appeal to the city authorities, the petition signatories propose increasing the number of trash bins in courtyards and near residential buildings, as well as installing additional containers for waste sorting. Additionally, residents demand a review and strengthening of the waste collection schedule, and if necessary, expanding the staff of service personnel or enhancing control over the quality of cleaning. Kyiv residents are confident that these measures will help improve the ecological situation in the capital and make the urban environment more comfortable for living.
