Petition for Renaming a Street in Kyiv
Citizens of the capital propose to honor the memory of the outstanding German composer by naming one of the city’s streets after him. The corresponding electronic petition has already been published on the official website of the Kyiv City Council.
Arguments in Favor of the Initiative
The initiators point out that Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most prominent figures in the history of world music. His legacy encompasses a wide range of genres and compositions characterized by depth, complexity, and powerful emotion. Bach’s music is an integral part of musical education and resonates on stages around the world, inspiring musicians and listeners of various generations.
At the same time, the signatories of the document note that, unlike some other historical figures, Bach is an absolutely uncontroversial figure, and his work does not provoke political, religious, or ideological disputes—therefore, naming a street after him would be a unifying factor for the community.
Additionally, the residents emphasize that honoring the names of world-renowned figures in the arts through street names contributes to enhancing the cultural prestige of the capital and forming a positive image of Kyiv on the international stage.
