The city budget could gain a new source of income

In response to the rapid increase in the number of private cars in Kyiv, local residents have initiated a proposal to regulate the parking situation in the courtyards of residential buildings. They are urging the city authorities to consider the possibility of legalizing informal parking near apartment blocks.
Conditions for Legalizing Parking Spaces
A corresponding electronic petition has already appeared on the official Kyiv City Council website. The authors of the initiative propose that to legalize parking near a specific building, at least 75% of the residents’ signatures must be collected. If supported, such parking areas should be equipped according to a unified standard: lighting, fencing, special paving to reduce soil pressure, video surveillance, and other security elements.
Expected Outcomes for the City
The petition signatories calculated that the implementation of this initiative would create over 100,000 additional parking spaces in Kyiv. After legalization, such parking areas are planned to be transferred to the relevant city department – either transportation or housing and communal infrastructure. A flexible payment system is also proposed: hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the needs of the residents.
As the authors of the initiative note, legalizing parking lots will not only solve the problem of chaotic parking but also provide additional revenue for the city budget.
