Volodymyr Muntyan’s Sporting Achievements

Throughout his career, Volodymyr Muntyan became a champion of the USSR seven times, won the national Cup twice, and was also a winner of the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 1975. The footballer’s debut for Dynamo took place on October 15, 1965, in Tashkent.

He was the first Soviet footballer to receive seven gold medals in the USSR championship, a feat later matched only by Oleg Blokhin. In total, he earned 11 medals.

“When coaches changed at Dynamo, Muntyan remained one of the irreplaceable players. Maslov, Sevidov, Lobanovsky – each of them valued the collectivism and skill of the club’s leading midfielder. ‘One of the best midfielders in Soviet football over the years. Well-coordinated, agile, mobile, he stood out for his high ball control, good starting speed, and tactical ingenuity. His rare game intuition, ability to make sharp passes, and precise strikes with both feet allowed Muntyan, accustomed to the role of a playmaker, to fit seamlessly into the more athletic style of Lobanovsky’s team,’ – this is how his contemporaries characterized him.”

Unforgettable Contribution to the Development of Football

During his 13 years with the main team of Dynamo, Volodymyr Muntyan played in 420 matches and scored 77 goals in all competitions. In European competitions, he played 32 games and scored 6 goals. He was named to the list of the ’33 best’ players eight times and represented the USSR national team in 49 matches, scoring 7 goals. Muntyan participated in the final stage of the 1970 World Cup and was a bronze medalist at the 1976 Olympic Games.

The club’s management emphasizes that Volodymyr Muntyan’s skill on the football field, his dedication to the team, and his love for the game inspired many generations. He not only achieved victories but also nurtured young champions, passing on his experience and passion for winning. Muntyan will forever remain an example of integrity, humanity, and true dedication to Dynamo.
