Oleksandr Korniienko: There Are Currently No Grounds for the Resignation of the Ukrainian Government

підстав для відставки уряду немає

The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and representative of the “Servant of the People” faction, Oleksandr Korniienko, stated that there are currently no significant reasons for the resignation of the current government. He expressed this position during his participation in the “Freedom Live” program on Radio Liberty.

Trust in the Cabinet of Ministers and Budget Voting

Korniienko emphasized that the adoption of the state budget for the next year by a significant majority in parliament indicates trust in the Cabinet of Ministers. In his opinion, support for the budget serves as a kind of vote of confidence for the government, and the lack of substantial grounds for its resignation is confirmed by the voting results.

“I do not see any particular reasons to send the government directly into resignation today. Sometimes experienced colleagues from previous convocations, who have been here for a long time, say that voting for the budget is a certain vote of confidence for the government. And today, it actually took place,” said Korniienko.

Resignations in the Government and Coalition Position

According to the Deputy Speaker, there is currently no need to form a broad coalition in the Verkhovna Rada. Korniienko stressed that according to the Constitution, as long as the parliamentary majority consists of at least 229 deputies, the process of creating a new coalition does not begin.

In response to a question about the resignation of the Head of the President’s Office, Andrii Yermak, Korniienko noted that one should not overstate the role of individual figures in political history.

Regarding the opposition’s initiative to reset the government, the politician remarked that the process of renewal is already underway. He recalled the recent resignation of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, as well as the search for candidates for these positions, which have not yet been determined.

Recently, two opposition political forces – “Voice” and “European Solidarity” – in response to the NABU investigation into corruption in the energy sector, called for the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers and the creation of a new coalition in the Verkhovna Rada. Additionally, the “European Solidarity” faction has repeatedly blocked the parliamentary tribune, demanding personnel changes in the government and the formation of a new coalition.
