US Vice President Jay D. Vance stated in an interview with Fox News Digital that the US intends to work diligently over the next 100 days to bridge the positions of Ukraine and Russia regarding the resolution of their conflict situation. According to him, the first and most important step is for both sides to make a peace proposal.

“The first and necessary step to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is for each side to make a peace proposal”
Vance emphasized that initial steps toward a peaceful resolution have already been taken. He noted: “The Ukrainians said, ‘This is what we want.’ The Russians said, ‘This is what we want,’ and now the work of diplomacy is to try to bring these two sides closer together. Because there is a very large gap between what the Russians want and what the Ukrainians want”. According to Vance, Washington has taken the first step and intends to actively promote peace.
At least in recent months, the US administration has intensified efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. In particular, President Donald Trump called for the Ukrainian and Russian sides to meet for high-level negotiations in an attempt to reach a ceasefire agreement. This came after White House envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in his statement, emphasized that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine should be reached soon, and Washington is trying to determine whether to continue its role as a mediator. He added that the administration does not yet have a specific timeline for expecting a breakthrough.
Furthermore, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha expressed Ukraine’s readiness for negotiations in any format if Russia demonstrates genuine willingness to embark on the difficult path to peace, rather than mere populism.
