Appointment of Vitaliy Zaychenko and his experience
Vitaliy Zaychenko began his career at ‘Ukrenergo’ in the 1990s and has since progressed from an engineer to the chief dispatcher of the unified energy system of Ukraine, a position he has held since 2015. His candidacy for the position of chairman was supported by all seven members of the supervisory board.
The chairman of the supervisory board, Jeppe Kofod, emphasized that the selection process for the new leader was conducted transparently and competitively, in accordance with international standards. He highlighted that the transparency of the appointment and the independence of the board’s operations strengthen international partners’ trust in the company.
“The transparency of the leader’s selection and the independence of the Board’s operations are the foundation of trust from international partners, and we were able to adhere to all necessary standards during the decision-making process. The supervisory board looks forward to fruitful cooperation with the new chairman of the Board, as this will undoubtedly strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system in the face of any challenges.”
Challenges and changes in the company’s leadership
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation in 2022, Vitaliy Zaychenko’s professional skills have allowed the Ukrainian energy system to transition to an isolated operational mode and subsequently connect it to the European energy network ENTSO-E. Under his leadership, the dispatch team managed to maintain the stability of the energy system amid massive Russian attacks on generation facilities and electricity transmission systems.
It is worth noting that in September 2024, Oleksiy Brecht was appointed as the acting chairman of the company following the premature termination of Volodymyr Kudrytsky’s powers. Subsequently, some members of the supervisory board, including Daniel Dobbeny and Peder Andersen, resigned, stating that the decision to dismiss the previous leader was politically motivated and lacked a substantiated report.
